Obesity Remedy In Ayurveda



Fat is considered as medas ( Ayurvedic terminology) in ayurveda. obesity is accumulation or deposition of lipids/ medas in tissues. hence ayurveda consider obesity as medo vruddhi vikkara i.e., disease of excess of converted fats.
• Management of obesity in Ayurveda is in such a way that we take it in sense of santarpana janya vikara ( stoutening related disorder), where great saints has given remedy to treat as langhanam (reducing, fasting, etc type). where today fasting is wrongly understood as skipping of eating. but definitely not, it means planned diet avoidance in in terms of individuals digestive power, appetite etc. (so never compulsorily skip food. sometimes it leads to some other disorders in few individuals.).
• in terms of few drugs beneficial in reducing fat/lipid are like -
• guggulu, kataka, asana, kulatha, triphala, kanchanara, etc are beneficial.(pl refer these botanical, regional names in books available) adding honey is additional tip. but excess of honey is also dangerous. all depends on individuals appetite.
• day sleep or being active-less in day time will not give result, instead it favors increase of weight.
• mild exercise ( till sweating in forehead) is benefical.
• doing yoga like surya namaskara etc gives fast result.
• maintaining low calories diet with low cholesterol is preventive measure.
• market available classical products like triphala guggulu, navaka gugggulu, navayasa choornam, kanchanara guggulu, varunadi kashayam, few rasa preparations, etc are indicated based on individual's constitution, power of digestion, bowel activity, age, place of residence,are taken in account.
so its better to be under guidance of ayurvedic physician.
